Susak Island - Island of Susak is a small pretty island with fantastic sandy
beaches, making it a popular holiday destination for tourists. Susak
Island is not very large approximately 3KM long and .1.5KM wide, the highest
point on the island is Garba at 98m. The island has one main settlement
called Susak, there are two parts to the settlement Lower Village (Donje Selo)
and Upper Village (Gornje Selo).
The population of the Island of Susak like the size of the island is small,
ranging from 200 people in 1991 to its largest population dated back to 1857
which was just over 1000 people.
Susak doesn't have a well document history prior to the 20th century, prior to
this time very few people attended school, most people either lived off the sea
or raised a family, thus very few record were written or maintained, land
ownership, traditions and even laws were verbally passed on between generations.
